Our formal call for proposals of symposia, workshops and events

Dear Colleagues,

We are extremely pleased to announce the 2019 open digital science week on biological and geological diversity, biodiversity_next, which will take place at the Stadsgehoorzaal in Leiden, The Netherlands, 21–25 October 2019. This historic joint conference is co-organised by Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG), Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities (CETAF), Distributed System of Scientific Collections (DiSSCo), Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), and iDigBio, and is hosted by Naturalis Biodiversity Center.

This conference is organized around four themes or tracks–science, standards, infrastructure, and policy & International Coordination–and how these themes intertwine and interact to underpin and produce robust decisions for the future. We hope that this meeting will act as a catalyst to inspire participation by both early career and established scientists working in biological and ecological diversity science, biodiversity and geodiversity informatics, e-infrastructures, natural science collections, citizen science, and conservation and science policy.

The structure for biodiversity_next, which also replaces the TDWG annual meeting, will feature plenaries each morning with keynote speakers who will inspire and challenge us, and parallel breakout sessions that will provide opportunities for working groups, discussion, panels, and presentations.

You are invited to submit proposals for breakout sessions events (e.g., symposia, workshops, interest group meetings, panel discussions).

For full consideration, please submit your proposal via this form by end of day Friday, 30 November 2018 Sunday, 9 December 2018 (please note deadline extension).

Completed proposals must include the following information:

  1. Names, email addresses, and affiliations of all organizers
  2. Type of event being proposed
  3. Title of event
  4. Abstract (<300 words)
  5. Relevant track(s)
  6. Specify if submitted/endorsed/supported by a co-organising partner or local host of biodiversity_next
  7. Number of 90-minute sessions requested. We will accommodate requests of more than one session as space and time allows. If your event is not designed to fill an entire session, provide the total number of minutes requested under “other.”

Please note: This is a NOT a call for abstracts for individual presentations (e.g., talks or posters), which will be announced after proposals solicited here have been selected and announced. If you have further questions, please use the contact form on the website. For more information about the conference please refer to
