Arturo H. Ariño (PhD 1987, UNAV, marine zoology) is Professor of Ecology at the University of Navarra (UNAV) where he also teaches Biodiversity Informatics, and lecturer on Environmental Sciences and Zoology at UNED in Spain. He is currently the director of the Department of Environmental Biology at UNAV and science director for its Museum of Sciences in Pamplona. His main research interest is environmental and ecological data science where he has been active for decades, developing early concepts for ecological and taxonomical databases. His current projects include the analysis of biodiversity data patterns at local and global scales, high-resolution air quality mapping, and natural history collections data mobilization. Arturo served in various positions with the Science Committee of GBIF and has long been associated to TDWG and RDA.
